The Albert Lea girls’ and boys’ track and field teams kicked off their spring season with an exciting first indoor meet at St. Mary’s University in Winona Tuesday night. With eight teams competing, the athletes had the opportunity to gain valuable experience, post some early-season times and distances and establish a solid foundation for their season.
Girls’ track and field team highlights
The girls team had a great showing, with standout performances in several events:
55m Hurdles:
— Lilly Elmer: Eighth place
— Audrey Gustafson: Ninth place
1,600-meter:
— Elle Schulz: Sixth place
400-meter:
— Hailey Deming: Sixth place
— Lilly Elmer: Seventh place
800-meter:
— Mya Hanke: Fifth place
Pole vault:
— Bree Weilage: Third place
4x200m relay:
— The team placed fourth
4x400m relay:
— The team placed fourth
Boys’ track and field team highlights
The boys team also had impressive performances, with several athletes securing top finishes:
Long jump:
— Charlie Irvine: First place with a jump of 20 feet 2 inches
Mile:
— Andrew Tscholl: Second place with a time of 4:37
200-meter:
— Isaiah Andersen-Pitchford: First place with a time of 23.82 seconds
4×200-meter relay:
— Isaiah Andersen-Pitchford, Carsen Gardner, Jaxson Sergent, Aiden Boss: First place
4×400-meter relay:
— Charlie Irvine, Andrew Tscholl, Payton Earl, Ben Schulz: Second place
Both teams are excited about the opportunities ahead and look forward to continuing to improve and grow as the spring season progresses.
