The Tiger girls’ hockey team picked up two more victories last week, beating Mankato West 7-0 Tuesday and Minneapolis 5-1 Saturday night. Albert Lea improves to 8-1 on the season.
Tuesday’s game was a dominant effort by the Tigers from start to finish with Albert Lea outshooting the Scarletts 41-10 for the game. Mankato had just two shots in the first two periods. Senior Mika Cichosz scored twice for Albert Lea, as did sophomore Morgan Goskeson and freshman Haley Austinson. Also picking up a goal was senior Aryah Hansen, her third of the season. Junior
Hanna Austinson earned three assists in the game, recording her 100th career point as a Tiger.
Saturday’s game brought the Metro West Conference’s Minneapolis Storm to Albert Lea and their 3-4 record. Austinson picked up two goals on the night while Goskeson, Cichosz and Austinson also picked up goals. Cichosz and Goskeson also contributed assists. The Tigers played shorthanded often, racking up 12 penalties for the game., including 5 in the third period. Minneapolis was only able to capitalize on one of those power plays, scoring late in the third period to break up the shutout. Goaltender Jayda Moyer finished with 21 saves for the evening.
Albert Lea was slated to host the Northfield Raiders at home Tuesday.
