The Waldorf D1 hockey team hosted McKendree for a weekend set in Albert Lea. A Friday night comeback win highlighted the series split.
Waldorf won the opening game of the two-game set Friday night, 5-3.
After a scoreless first period, the two teams exchanged goals in a five-goal second period. McKendree scored first 2:57 into the period. Zak Molstad and Liam Wallace scored for Waldorf, but McKendree led 3-2 at the end of the second period.
Waldorf came out on all cylinders in the third period. Within the first minute of the period, the Warriors would tie the game and then take the lead.
Dominic Toews tied the game at 3 off an assist from Molstad 43 seconds into the third period.
Just 16 seconds later, Molstad added his second goal of the night on assists from Toews and JJ Adams.
Geoffrey Dick added an insurance goal to give Waldorf the 5-3 lead.
Vaughn Holbeche kept McKendree scoreless the rest of the way to record the win in net. He made 34 saves.
Saturday afternoon, McKendree won a high-scoring affair, 7-5 to gain a series split.
Waldorf scored first, off the stick of Audun Caple, just 1:28 into the game.
McKendree scored four unanswered goals to end the period. Waldorf pulled within 4-3 after goals from Cale Anderson and Molstad.
Another McKendree goal gave them a 5-3 edge going into the final period. Dick and Toews helped Waldorf pull within one at 6-5, but a McKendree goal in the closing seconds gave them the win.
Waldorf (4-6) returns to the ice November 1-2 against Jamestown in Albert Lea.
